Krostini, one may safely assume, comes from the Italian Crostini, which is an appetizer made of small slices of grilled or toasted bread with different toppings. And needless to say, their main offering is, crostinis with various delectable toppings. They also serve a selection of salads, sandwiches and wraps along with smoothies and beverages.
We tried out a plethora of food items from the menu, which included mango milkshake, Eggs and Mushroom Wrap, Aloo Tikki Wrap, a Greek Salad and chocolate tarts for dessert. The overall quality of food is great, but there’s still scope for improvement. For instance, the milkshake was too milky and it reminds one of really diluted version of mango ice cream. The wraps would have been a lot better, had that patina of oil not been on it, but that would be being too demanding. Point to be noted – there’s something good about the quality of vegetables they use. They are as fresh and crunchy as veggies can get, allowing you to actually taste them for what they are rather than just being ghaas-phoos.
But the best thing, undoubtedly, was the Greek Salad. The veggies again, were delightful and the spread, colorful with different flavors being topped off with an excellent sample of feta cheese. A very simple dish which these guys seem to have stuck to, making it a success.
The portions are well sized, for most people with normal appetites and their prices, quite reasonable. Expansion of the menu would help of course. Omnivorous people, who are more likely to frequent such a place, will not be so eager to visit a place that only serves eggs under non-veg. But think we’ll return again and again for that delicious Greek Salad. And here’s where the problem begins.
Their location isn’t all that great – it’s a small café with a well-priced menu, but as a friend pointed out, people would rather have a quick bite at the many street stalls surrounding it than spend a bit more for their menu. It does have a niche offering, but it’s hard to be noticed in that corner of JM Road. For all its positives and negatives, we’d recommend this to any friend who likes food for purposes other than mere sustenance.
